July 15, 2019

agenda

June 3, 2019

agenda minutes

  • There were reports on a Fire Safe Council workshop, the size and composition of the CWPP Planning Team, and issues of PG&E trimming redwood trees.

May 20, 2019

agenda minutes

  • Discussion of who we should approach to fill the remaining two places on the steering committee. It was agreed that we need people who understand fuel reduction and can manage volunteers and outside parties doing that work. It was also agreed that some people would contribute more effectively serving on a sub-committee, rather than on the steering committee.

May 6, 2019

agenda minutes

  • Various interesting issues came up during correspondence with outside groups like OAEC, Gold Ridge RCD and Recology.
  • Discussion about the balance between autonomy and oversight for each steering committee member working in their area of responsibility. We made several policy decisions to help us determine where the balance should be.

agenda minutes

  • Discussion about the balance between autonomy and oversight for each steering committee member working in their area of responsibility.

Apr 8, 2019

agenda minutes

  • Sheila Denton and Richard Seaman met with Lee Hackeling of LandPaths, to determine whether the watershed around and through the residential area of Camp Meeker could be restored with fire safety in mind.
  • A Forest Health community education event is being jointly set up for May 19 by Fire Safe Camp Meeker and Fire Safe Occidental.
  • Discussion of how best for FSCM to facilitate work days sponsored by Camp Meeker property owners, with local volunteers helping.
  • The Fire Safe Camp Meeker "elevator pitch" was discussed. While suitable for describing our work to outside groups, it was also felt that a "community elevator pitch" would be helpful.

Mar 25, 2019

agenda

We didn't get a quorum for this meeting, so there are no minutes.

All agenda items have been rolled over to the agenda for the meeting on April 8.

Mar 11, 2019

agenda minutes

  • Fawn Nekton spoke about the insurance issues which are becoming an increasing problem for homeowners in our area.
  • Various options for marketing FSCM to the community were explored.
  • We began looking into getting FSCM fire-wise status, becoming a fire safe council and incorporating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Feb 25, 2019

agenda minutes

  • We discussed correspondence from Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District in which they expressed interest in exploring our suggestion that one or more environmental groups might purchase the forested land around and in Camp Meeker, with a view to restoring it and reducing wildfire risk.
  • Linda Collister, the fire marshal for Healdsburg, invited the steering committee to see the fire mitigation work they've been doing at Fitch Mountain. This community is similar in many ways to Camp Meeker, with steep terrain, overgrown forest and relatively dense housing. Fitch Mountain has been very successful at setting up COPE groups to prepare the residents for emergencies.
  • LandPaths has invited the steering committee and members of the Camp Meeker community to their Fire Mitigation Workshop at Bohemia Ecological Preserve.
  • Fawn Nekton, owner and operator of Gaffney Insurance Services in Occidental, accepted our invitation to join the Fire Safe Camp Meeker steering committee.
  • We discussed our first Community Education Event to allow people to learn about Fire Safe Camp Meeker, with a discussion of waste management issues with a representative from Recology.
  • It was agreed that Sheila Denton should take on the responsibility for marketing of Fire Safe Camp Meeker, after the steering committee discusses the broad parameters for how we should do it.

Feb 18, 2019

agenda minutes

  • Amy Lemmer contacted Mimi Enright of UCCE with a view to her giving a talk on Fire Wise Landscaping. However, because she will be giving this talk soon in Occidental, it was decided that it makes sense for Camp Meeker residents interested in this topic to attend the meeting in Occidental.
  • There was discussion of the most appropriate ways of handling the FSCM contact list.
  • We discussed the best ways to advertise upcoming events.
  • We agreed to a set of rules on how members of the steering committee should spend their own money to fund the operation of Fire Safe Camp Meeker before we have outside monies available to us.

Feb 4, 2019

agenda minutes

  • We unanimously voted to provide a letter of support to Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District for a grant they're writing with other RCDs to add a Watershed And Forest Health Coordinator who can help FSCM.
  • We discussed the FSCM logo and its relationship to the FSCM "forest banner photo".
  • It was agreed that the steering committee should use a "consensus" decision making process.
  • Discussion of the FSCM mission statement, the FSCM motto and an FSCM "elevator pitch".
  • The steering committee is grateful that St Dorothy's Rest has offered the use of their meeting spaces for community meetings. Using their spaces seems like a good way to strengthen the relationship between SDR and the other residents of Camp Meeker, however the steering committee felt that using Anderson Hall would probably attract more people than other venues, so Richard will ask the board of the Recreation & Park District if we can use Anderson Hall for community educational meetings on subjects such as Home Hardening, COPE groups and Firewise Landscaping.
